"We gave an excellent performance in the match and this gave us a chance to make a big win tonight.

Erbil hosted Uzbekistan's Neftchi in the last 16 of the AFC Cup on Wednesday 23rd May at the Franso Hariri Stadium. The team of the Kurdish capital city secured a comprehensive 4-0 victory.

Erbil started strongly with attacks from the very beginning and was rewarded when Muslim Mubarak scored the opening goal five minutes before the break.

Erbil continued to grow in confidence in the second half. In the 70th minute Abulrazaq Hussein scored the second goal for Erbil before Amjad Radhi scored the third goal in the 88th minute.

And in stoppage time, Neftchi's AFC Cup adventure of 2012 came to an end in disappointing fashion with their defender inadvertently put through his own net making the result 4-0.

After the match Erbil Coach Nizar Mahrous said "We gave an excellent performance in the match and this gave us a chance to make a big win tonight. The players followed my instructions and they didn't have a lot of mistakes in the match."

Meanwhile, a despondent Neftchi coach Yuriy Sarkisyan stated "There were a lot of things that affected us tonight as the players were tired after the long trip that they had to reach Erbil. Also the difference in the weather played a negative role in the defeat."
