Suleimaniya Football Club Finance Manager Ayoub Aziz announced the club's management board had appointed Sardar Salih, a former trainer of the Peshmarga Football Club, as the new coach to lead Suleimaniya in next season's Kurdistan premier football league.
Aziz noted Suleimaniya will have two football teams next year: The team that plays in Kurdistan premier league will be trained by Salih, while Khasraw Groun will lead the team that plays in the Iraqi league.
"All the management board members agreed on having two teams for next season. We all voted for Salih to train Suleimaniya for the Kurdistan league. We tried to create a situation where Salih could do this comfortably," said Aziz.
Suleimaniya's results in the Kurdistan league were good under the supervision of Groun, who decided to only coach Suleimaniya in the Iraqi league due time constraints."I need to try to work hard to improve the team's results and performance in the [Kurdistan] league," said Salih, adding that his main objective is to make the team stronger.
Although Salih has been officially recognized as Suleimaniya's coach, no details have been disclosed about the new role or pay.
"We officially agreed on everything except the value of the contract and monthly pay, which, I believe, aren't a big deal for either side. What matters to me is that the club has given me full power to make the required changes in the squad to improve the team," noted Salih
Salih hopes he will succeed in his new post and can do for Suleimaniya what he did for his former team, Peshmarga.
Salih previously coached Peshmarga, which was second in Kurdistan league twice and was once runner-up for the Kurdistan Cup.
